Manchester, UK, 26 October 2017 – Axiell, the leading vendor globally of collections management software to archives and museums, today announces that its Adlib solution has been selected by the Mary Rose Trust to manage its collection of over 19,000 artefacts from, or relating to, the Mary Rose, the 16th Century warship and flagship of Henry VIII raised from the seabed in October 1982.
The new collections management system will be used to manage the wealth of material that was recovered from the ship, including artefacts, timbers, samples and human remains, as well as the substantial archive of material that relate to the archaeological excavation and subsequent research. The archive is currently being digitised as part of a project made possible by a grant from the Designated Development Fund of Arts Council England.
The Axiell system is fully SPECTRUM compliant and flexible so that it can meet the demands of managing a variety of different collection types. Importantly, for the Mary Rose Trust, the system enables collaborative contributions from the Conservation Team and the Curators.
The Mary Rose Trust selected Axiell as part of their ambition to further develop their collection and archive, with Adlib meeting their demands now, whilst being flexible enough to adapt to their future needs. Adlib is also able to handle the multiple collection types of the Trust in a single system. The project also includes the Adlib Internet Server, which enables the publication of collections to the web, and the Axiell Collections Web UI, which provides web access to the collections management system. The web interface enables staff to enter data and work with their CMS from any location via a desktop or mobile device, and facilitates the collaborative working that was crucial to the project requirements.
Adlib is built on a foundation of international standards and is currently used by more than 1300 institutions worldwide.
